Quote: “When it matters most, trust your insight not your eyesight.” -Tee Archer

What you see matters. But what you see is not always all there is.

We naturally make decisions based on the information in front of us. We look at circumstances, listen to what people say, consider the evidence, and try to make sense of what appears to be happening.

There is wisdom in that. God gave us eyes to see and minds to think. Faith does not require us to ignore facts.

But discernment asks us to look deeper.

Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly saw something that human eyes could not. People saw a shepherd boy; God saw a king. Gideon saw himself as the least in his family; God addressed him as a mighty warrior. The disciples saw five loaves and two fish; Jesus saw enough.

The facts were not necessarily wrong. They were incomplete.

That distinction matters.

Sometimes what you can see will tell you there is no way forward. The numbers do not add up. The opportunity appears to have passed. Someone may look perfect for you or completely wrong for you. A situation appears hopeless, or promising…

Everything you can see will be telling you one thing, but something within you keep saying, Look again.

That is where discernment becomes important.

Christian discernment is not simply trusting every feeling or calling intuition the voice of God. Our feelings can be influenced by fear, desire, past experiences, wounds, and even what we desperately want to be true. Discernment requires us to bring what we sense before God, test it against His Word, pray, listen, and remain willing for Him to correct our perspective.

Sometimes He will confirm what your eyes are telling you.

Sometimes He will show you what your eyes missed.

So pay attention to what you see, but do not become imprisoned by it.

When it matters most, ask God for wisdom beyond the obvious. Give Him room to challenge your first impression, expose what is hidden, and show you possibilities you could not yet see.

Your eyesight tells you what is in front of you.

God can give you insight into what it means.

“For we live by faith, not by sight.” -2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
